Recommending Recommendations with Ky Newman (Video)

Featuring recommendations from Olivia Rodrigo, Joeyy, Ali Michael, and more.

The first video content we've ever produced (besides party interviews) is finally here.

It's called Recommending Recommendations** and we wanted to reinforce that the recommendations on this newsletter (and on PI.FYI) aren't just "content" and they're meant to be tried out by you, the reader.

We filmed it in November and a bunch of hommies were involved (Ky, Robbie, Tommy, Michael Rees, Leia Jospe, etc) - we're excited to do more like this.

Here are the recommendations that Ky tries out...

This is one of my favorite cafes in the world. It’s right across from a beautiful park that turns all orange and gorgeous in the fall. It has bomb drinks and sandwiches. I used to come and study here all the time when I was in high school. Cherry on top is they filmed some scenes from ladybird here… first time I went I def recreated one of the timothée chalamet shots.

When I'm in line at the Erewhon tonic bar purchasing  the new 'Frankie's Malibu Mango Smoothie' for $19; I already feel really good about myself. Getting noticed by a fan and being asked to take a picture really elevates that experience. That iPhone camera sound cementing my celebrity status in front of all of these LA influencer wannabes. My bros stole about 5 smoothies that same day.

I know this is very Mitt Romney saying his favorite meat is hot dog, but I like to throw around a ball. I turn my brain off and lay on the couch and toss it up and down. I bounce it against a wall. The best version is sitting around with a friend and having a catch  while chatting. Any ball: Tennis ball, Pinky ball, stress ball, whatever. At the time of writing, I have a purple grocery store ball and two foam tennis balls in my arsenal. Foam tennis balls are good because when you inevitably hit the TV, it won’t fall over.

my friends send me videos of cranes and bridges all the time. it might be better than any movie before 2000. that shit is so captivating. so calming and inspiring. what are they building? when are they going to be done? will they ever be done? where did this crane come from? its so big. sometimes i sit in parking lots watching some fresh construction and think to myself, “are they building another parking lot?”

Not sure why people stopped doing this. It was actually a really popular and socially accepted family activity in the 1920's. The perfect silence and peace coupled with some of the best and most aesthetically pleasing pieces of art (statues, paintings, stained glass, the fonts on the tombstones) are constant sources of inspiration for me. It's important to me to speak and research the names i see so they never truly die, there are so many forgotten stories it's insane. Cemetery Recommendations: Spend a whole day at Forest Lawn in Glendale, make sure you go inside the hall of crucifixion & the great mausoleum. Angelus Rosedale and The Westwood Memorial Park are my other favorites.

I grew up with horses and have always specifically loved riding more “spirited” ones which has resulted in me being injured and even trampled (one of my front teeth is fake for this reason), so I really love riding mechanical bulls. I recently went to a party at the Saddle Ranch on Sunset Boulevard where a bull is available to ride.
