For today's spotlight we're featuring @MOSSYELFIE. Annie is a compassionate and introspective user on PI.FYI. Residing in The Mystic, she uses her platform to post on themes of love, motherhood, and the magic found in everyday moments. Like almost all users on PI.FYI, she also has a fantastic taste in music.

I’m a first time human, mother, wife, therapist, daughter, sister, and friend. I say first time human because two different shamans told me in my immediate past life I was a fairy, and I’m choosing to believe it as fact. I kneel at the altar of death and transformation in the service of life. I seek solace in nature, aliveness in dancing, and am working to heal the world one child and family at a time. I believe in love and magic and live to find that in the seemingly mundane.

What does “taste” mean to you?

I experience taste as a collection of things that have spoken to my soul at any point in time, through chance, friends, family, or lovers. It is what connects the me now to every single past version of me, and is always and forever becoming.

How do you choose an experience that’s worthy of recommendation (in your eyes)? Is it a recurring moment of joy, or based on a gut feeling?

As a true extrovert, I think —-> post. While I do feel I have an internal filter, I very rarely sit on a rec. Typically the posts in my drafts are thoughts I know are weird as hell, and I am not quite sure if I will ever let them be free. I am a millennial in that things like chat rooms and blogs were becoming more prevalent when I was a preteen. It was always so much easier for me to share my true feelings on the Internet versus with anybody in real life. That is something I actually worked on for years in therapy, and has become the opposite. I share a lot of myself on here because of the community that has been built, but there are so many parts of my life that are sacred and private. I do feel like anything I share on PI.FYI (or any other social media site) needs to be something I would be willing to say face-to-face. I make sure everything I share aligns with who I feel I am as a person. It’s just really fun sharing the beauty of the world, whether that be something physical I happen upon, music, or a piece of art. PI.FYI definitely feels like a joyful space, and I’m grateful for that!

Which PI.FYI user should we feature next?

Is it a cop out to say anyone? This app is genuinely full of thoughtful, intelligent, funny, caring people. It’s a beautiful community that’s ever evolving. I can think of reasons why any one of my mutuals would be a great feature. I started thinking and about 50 people came to mind 😅 If I HAVE to choose, @SILLYGIRLTYPEBEAT, @MIDWESTZEN, and @BIGSTRONGGUY because I don’t suspect they’d ever put themselves forward, but I’d love for their energy to reach far and wide. I also feel we’re overdue for a @ROYALLMONARCH or @LUCIUS feature!!

Recipe for Truth and Lasting Happiness

If you’ve followed the website link in my profile, then you’ve heard this song. It’s delightful!! I am here though to show you how S.E. Rogie is beautifully and playfully singing about the healing process. He starts off the song sharing that in order to be happy, you must show love and gratitude for yourself and all of humanity. You might read that and be thinking, “Mossy… that is grossly positive.” and yes, I get it. But, we cannot ignore the studies that have shown us that how and what we think affects our well being. Toxic positivity comes in when people only try to think positive thoughts, and try to ignore any feelings, injustices, or uncomfortable truths. Even with the little kids I work with, I teach that we address our thoughts, but we also must address the body (nervous system). They are interconnected. To try to only focus on one will leave you feeling severed- health is wholeness.

Joy Harjo

Joy Harjo is a favorite poet of mine. Attached is a video of her reading her poem, “For Calling The Spirit Back From Wandering The Earth In Its Human Feet.” Nature is my Mother. Nature is my guide, my greatest support. All the healing I have found has been through her. The feeling I get being connected to nature is the same feeling Joy Harjo’s poetry gives me. She reminds me that nature does not abide by the same rules we have created, and not all problems are always as big as they seem to be. So easily, we can step into our place amongst all living beings. I am grateful for her gift of sharing these truths so beautifully, and I’m grateful to share it with you!

Canoeing

I began canoeing back in 2016 when my husband was gifted a canoe by his landlord. I had never done much canoeing, but immediately took to it. Being on the river felt like entering a magical space. Although we were near humanity, it still felt separate, immersed in the gentle flow of the river and energy surrounding it. We witness Great Blue Herons, Cranes, turtles, muskrats, beavers. We’ve halted paddling to watch deer graze. We work our way over rocks when the water is low, lift our paddles to let the current carry us. We’ve rescued a stray dog, cleaned up debris. We’ve canoed in lakes, entering secret places covered in water lilies. We’ve canoeed in the Long Island Sound, the coast becoming tiny as we explored around the islands. Being on the water is such a special way to experience these spaces I often am in. It is a way to experience the magic of nature that is respectful and at one with it. In 2020, being able to still go out on the river was one of the few fine threads that kept me tethered to the goodness of the world. I now pay closer attention to the bodies of water I cross over or drive next to, thinking about whether or not we’d be able to get access to explore. We make a point to go out on the water with our family, many of them using kayaks. I’m grateful to have found another way to experience our natural world, and it’s one I hope to share with many more friends.

Community Puzzles

I’m a puzzle lover, and also someone that often is taking trips with groups of people. On one of the earlier trips with my group of friends, somebody brought along a puzzle. It was so enjoyable throughout the week to work on it as I pleased, being able to chat with different friends each time. It is now something I tend to bring when I know I’m going to be spending a good amount of time somewhere. It is the perfect activity to set up on a table out of the way and casually work on. People ebb and flow as they want, usually when a little down time is needed. It is a collective effort that doesn’t require so much focus that you can’t talk and joke around while you’re doing it. It is always very exciting and the puzzle finally gets finished, and we all celebrate together.

Embracing The Fool Archetype

In Tarot, The Fool is the first card in the Major Arcana, which represents the life cycle. These cycles we are continuously going through in our lives, not just once. The final card of the Major Arcana is The World (which I have tattooed very large on my thigh), which signifies the completion of a cycle and natural ascension into the next. We are then thrust back into the Fool, with a bit more wisdom. The Fool as an archetype is one of joy, curiosity, spontaneity, and trust. The Fool is pure of heart, knowing that the Universe has got their back. This innate trust allows The Fool to be playful, to take risks, and truly believe everything will work out. The more we go through life and experience loss, grief, heartache, trauma, the harder it becomes to embrace this energy. I’ve found that as healing goes on, just as it’s shown in tarot, we return to this natural state of being. We start off as The Fool when we are wee little babies, and if we are lucky can return there a few cycles at a time, with more wisdom gained each time. The goal of The Fool is to have positive experiences, maybe for fun, maybe to grow. There is an acceptance with The Fool, a kind of “this is what is, how can I make this work well for me?” Everything works out for The Fool because they don’t know it can’t. Anything we go through in life, we can use to grow. I personally believe we all could benefit embracing the archetypal energy of The Fool a bit more. The Fool doesn’t stop to worry what other people will think! The Fool does not fret about what if’s! The Fool is in the moment!
